Additional Information

When will the REACH Museum reopen to its regular hours?

Our operations through May of 2022 will continue to be limited to general admission on weekends only, and by reservation any day of week for groups of 10 or more people.

Our summer operating hours from June 1, 2022 through September 3, 2022 will be Tuesdays through Sundays (see website for hours), and by reservation any day of week for groups of 10 or more people.  It will take some time to rebuild our financial base so that we can continue offering expanded operating hours after Labor Day, so we thank you for your understanding and encourage you to make a gift to the museum to support this effort.

How can I support the REACH Museum?
The REACH relies on support from its community. Please consider making a gift, renting the museum for a party or event, volunteering, serving on the Reach Foundation board, or becoming a member!  It’s easy to give!  Just grab your cell phone and text REACH to 243725.

UPDATE – February 9th, 2021

From Executive Director, Rosanna Sharpe

The REACH Museum’s onsite operations are currently closed due to the COVID-19 health crisis. We are adhering to Healthy Washington – Roadmap to Recovery, a region-based plan with two reopening phases for the economy.  When Benton County and Franklin County (which are in the South Central regional group) reach Phase II, the REACH Museum will offer general admissions at 25% capacity. We look forward to that day and welcoming you back to the museum!

But curiosity never closes.

Our team has been busy retooling education programs for safe, virtual delivery with a steadfast commitment to serving the community.   We are currently offering Virtual Field Trip along with other virtual experiences like Boredom Busters on our website, Sunday Storytimes on Facebook, among others.

We are also using this time to re-envision programs, refine our business model, and upgrade outdoor exhibits, all while maintaining our facility for immediate reopening.

All these efforts require resources, which are negatively impacted by our closure.  We appreciate your continued support and thank you in advance for making a donation, renewing your membership and purchasing a new one, or sponsoring an education program.  Every dollar makes a difference, and we send deep thanks for those who contributed in 2020.

Lastly, please visit us online and follow us on social media to see our latest offerings. Share any feedback you have on our virtual programs and how we can best serve the community during this time by contacting the Education Manager at paulines@visitthereach.org.

Sincerely,

Rosanna Sharpe
Executive Director

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

When will the REACH Museum reopen?

We expect that onsite operations will continue to be very limited well into 2021. At this point we do not have a welcome back date, but we will continue to offer guests the opportunity to experience REACH programs through Virtual Field Trips and other content we offer online.  Please visit our website www.visitthereach.org, and follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

Other museums are opening in Phase I, why aren’t you?

Healthy Washington – Roadmap to Recovery allows indoor entertainment venues like museums to have limited visitation at Phase I.  This is described as private rental/tours for individual households of no more than six people, with no general admissions.  This limited use makes it very difficult for the REACH Museum to deliver experiences that are rewarding for guests, equitable, accessible, and economically sustainable. We’ve made a decision to wait until Phase II when general admissions are allowed.

How will you make decisions about reopening?

We have identified four criteria for reopening the facility to guest operations. We will only open when all criteria can be met.

  1. Comply with public health requirements and safety guidelines. This includes proper social distancing measures, appropriate PPE, a regular cleaning schedule that meets the EPA’s requirements, etc.
  2. Provide a safe and healthy environment for our employees, volunteers, guests, vendors, partners, and others that visit our facility.
  3. Deliver experiences that the community finds enriching, rewarding, and worth supporting financially through ticket purchases, memberships, and/or donations.
  4. Ensure that our operations are economically sustainable.

We do not currently see how we can reopen to the public and meet all four criteria under Phase I.

What offerings do you have while you are closed?

We have a variety of virtual offerings available from home or anywhere. Visit our website www.visitthereach.org for more information.

How can I support the REACH Museum?

The REACH relies on support from the community. With your support, we can continue to deliver virtual experiences and educational content like Virtual Field Trip to schools, childcare facilities, educators, and community centers in our community. Please consider making a donation by texting REACH to 243725, or visit our website here to donate online.

Are you offering any onsite programming?

Not currently, but please check back soon as we are in the process of upgrading our outdoor exhibitions that can be enjoyed in the spring.

What does this mean for my membership?

Members and donors are more important than ever to help us during our closure. Upon request, we will extend all memberships by the amount of time that we are closed.  However, we hope members will consider their membership dollars as additional support and enjoyment and value our virtual offerings in the meantime.

UPDATE – June 3, 2020

Message from Executive Director, Rosanna Sharpe:

Dear Friends of the Museum:

The safety and well-being of our staff, volunteers, and visitors are always our highest priorities.  We are mindful of concerns surrounding the COVID-19 health emergency and are committed to being responsive, following recommendations from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Benton Franklin Health District.

Please wear a mask and practice social distancing!

What is the REACH Museum doing

In light of the directives issued by the Governor’s office to limit the spread of COVID-19 and the guidance of public health officials to safeguard the health of our community, the museum will remain closed until further notice.

While we are closed, please follow us on Facebook and Instagram to access information, educational activities, and other program content that has been created by our education team who want to keep you connected to our stories of the Mid-Columbia River.

The REACH Museum is a project of the Richland Public Facilities District and does not qualify for CARES Act funding.  We rely heavily on donations given through the Reach Foundation which is a 501 c 3 that supports our education programs.  Please consider giving a gift today by clicking HERE, or purchasing a membership for yourself, family member or someone special in your neighborhood HERE.

If you have paid for a ticket to one of the tours that have been canceled, please consider donating your ticket to the museum during this difficult time.  We are also very happy to exchange your ticket for a future tour or offer you a refund upon request.  Due to staffing limitations during the museum’s closure, it may take longer than usual to reply.  Please contact us at info@visitthereach.org to let us know your preference.

We are closely monitoring the quickly changing situation and will announce any further program or operational changes through our website and social media.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we work together to help our community stay healthy and safe.   We look forward to welcoming you back to The REACH Museum as soon as permitted.

What You Can Do

For the safety of everyone in our community, we ask that you:

  • Stay home if you are feeling unwell and practice social distancing when out.
  • Wash your hands. Do so often. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • If the opportunity for hand washing is not available, use hand sanitizers.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes. Hold a tissue over your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Throw that tissue away and, again, wash your hands.
  • No handshakes or hugs, please. A wave is acceptable for greeting others.

It is strongly recommending that people at higher risk of severe illness should stay home and away from large groups of people as much as possible, including public places with lots of people and large gatherings where there will be close contact with others. People at higher risk include:

  • People 60 and older.
  • People with underlying health conditions including heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes.
  • People who have weakened immune systems.
  • People who are pregnant.

We encourage you to stay informed and to follow the guidance provided by public health officials.
