Parliament of Owls

Quiet Wings. Remarkable Hunters.

With watchful eyes and keen hearing, owls are fascinating
hunters. Many species have specialized feathers that help
soften the sound of flight.

Creature Facts:

  • Many owls are active at night or around dawn and dusk.
  • Their eyes stay fixed in their sockets, so they turn
    their heads to look around.
  • Different owl species live in grasslands, forests
    and other habitats.
Illustrated ravens perched and flying above a moonlit river canyon, with purple and gold decoration.

Unkindness of Ravens

Curious Minds. Clever Birds.

Don’t let the name fool you! Ravens are intelligent birds known
for their curiosity, varied calls and problem-solving abilities.

Creature Facts:

  • Ravens belong to the corvid family, along with crows and jays.
  • They eat a wide variety of foods.
  • Ravens can communicate through sounds and body movements.
Illustrated bats flying over a river canyon beneath a full moon, framed by a purple and gold border.

Cauldron of Bats

Take Flight into the Night.

Bats are mammals with wings! Many species use echolocation—making
sounds and listening for returning echoes—to navigate and find food.

Creature Facts:

  • Bats are the only mammals capable of sustained powered flight.
  • Many bats eat insects, while others eat fruit or nectar.
  • Bats can see; echolocation gives many species another way to
    explore their surroundings.
Illustrated wolves standing together in a moonlit canyon, surrounded by an ornate gold border.

Pack of Wolves

Strength in the Pack.

For wolves, family matters. Packs are often family groups that
work together to raise pups, defend their territory and find food.

Creature Facts:

  • Wolves communicate through howls, scent and body language.
  • Pups learn important skills as they grow within the pack.
  • Wolves need suitable habitat and enough prey to survive.
Illustrated spiders and intricate webs against a moonlit canyon, framed by purple and gold decoration.

Clutter of Spiders

Small Creatures. Extraordinary Silk.

Spiders produce silk that can help them catch prey, protect eggs
or create shelter. Their hunting methods are surprisingly
varied—not every spider catches food in a web!

Creature Facts:

  • Spiders are arachnids, with eight legs.
  • Some build webs; others stalk or ambush their prey.
  • Spiders help food webs by eating insects and other small animals.
Illustrated toads gathered among grasses and rocks beneath a full moon, with an ornate gold border.

Knot of Toads

A Small Hop into a Big World.

Toads are amphibians, and many spend much of their adult lives
on land. Water remains an important part of their life cycle.

Creature Facts:

  • Toads are a type of frog.
  • Many have bumpy skin and shorter legs than other frogs.
  • Many species begin life as aquatic tadpoles before developing legs.
