Exhibited at the REACH Museum – January 9 through March 16, 2024
This exhibit celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Desert Fiber Arts Guild (DFA), a longstanding collective of fiber artists based in the Tri-Cities region. Through a dynamic collection of woven, knitted, crocheted, and handcrafted works, the exhibit traced the Guild’s journey from its early roots to the establishment of its dedicated studio space in Kennewick.
Visitors experienced a wide range of fiber art styles and techniques—each piece thoughtfully created by DFA members. The exhibit honored the Guild’s commitment to preserving traditional methods while embracing new forms of expression through fiber.
In addition to the gallery display, the REACH Museum partnered with DFA to offer a series of interactive craft days and artist demonstrations, inviting visitors to witness the artistry in action. Topics included bandweaving, rigid heddle looms, basketry, knitting, and crocheting.
Demonstration Days Included:
- January 27 – Bandweaving and handcraft demonstrations
- February 10 – Rigid heddle and portable loom weaving
- February 24 – Basket weaving and basketeers in action
- March 9 – Knitting and crocheting with DFA members
This exhibit highlighted not only the artistic output of the Guild, but also the community, mentorship, and craftsmanship that have defined Desert Fiber Arts for five decades.
