A Teaching Process for Seeing Math Differently
What if math wasn’t just about getting the right answer—but about how you see the problem?
Keep • Change • Flip is a rotating exhibit developed by educator Destiny Kuespert that explores a creative, process-driven approach to teaching mathematics. Featuring work by 6th-grade students from Carmichael Middle School, the exhibit highlights how fractional division can be explored through visual thinking, hands-on materials, and design.
Using visual models such as area models and number lines, along with organic materials, students translated mathematical problems into physical and visual forms. The resulting work reflects how students think, experiment, and communicate mathematical ideas when they are encouraged to slow down and engage with math in new ways.
Rather than focusing solely on answers, Keep • Change • Flip invites visitors to consider the learning process itself—and how creativity, exploration, and perspective can shape understanding in the classroom and beyond.
