Songs of the Moon: Fantastical Folktales from Asia

“Songs of the Moon: Fantastical Folktales from Asia”
written by Maggie Lee and Annatasia L. Workman, presented by 5th Avenue Theater’s Educational Touring Company

Three Asian American students gather on a crisp autumn evening to decorate their neighborhood park in preparation of the mid-Autumn Harvest Festival celebrating the moon, but they can’t decide which story they should perform for their community: should it be Sun and Moon (a Korean folktale), The Jade Rabbit (a Vietnamese folktale), or The Moon Lady (a Chinese folk tale)? As they journey through each story, they realize the significant role folk tales and oral storytelling hold in bridging intergenerational connections, creating opportunities for social and emotional growth, and preserving cultural heritage.

This FREE, one-hour long performance is ideal for K through 5th graders and includes a Q & A session with the actors. Seating will be outdoors in the REACH Museum amphitheater, weather permitting.
