Investigating Crayfish + Freshwater Ecosystems: Science Educators Hybrid Online Training

August 12, 2021

Thursday, August 12th, 2021
Virtual & In-Person

Learn to engage grade 2-12 students in fascinating crayfish studies in this hands-on STEAM workshop. Rick Reynolds, veteran educator and author of Investigating Crayfish + Freshwater Ecosystems, will team up with other partners from The River Mile Network to step you through student activities including scientific investigations in your local watershed. Gain confidence to participate with The River Mile’s Crayfish Study to support important research by scientists and wildlife managers.

Wondering what to do this fall with your students?  Want to encourage them to go outside?  Are you and your students interested in crayfish?  Did you use the Structure and Function Kit that featured crayfish and want to incorporate crayfish back into your classroom?  Well, this training is for you! It is online and it is FREE!

Learn about crayfish and how you and your students can participate in a citizen science project contributing data to professors researching crayfish!

The training has been approved for Washington STEM clock hours, University of Idaho professional development credit and all participants will receive certificates of completion.

Plus some pre-work and homework assignments.

The class includes about an hour viewing and/or reading some pre-session materials, about 3 hours on your own doing the virtual on demand crayfish training and creating a plan for how you will incorporate the study with your students during the 2020-21 school year, and then the final session is 3 hours online where participants will present their classroom plans.

Clock Hours and Professional Development
All Washington State participants who complete the class will receive 9 FREE STEM clock hours.  For our Idaho participants we have University of Idaho Professional Development credit available at the going rate.  For our Oregon participants we have certificates of completion.
